Our Story
ABC Counseling began in 2018 with a simple but meaningful idea: therapy should feel more human, more inclusive, and more accessible.

The seeds of the practice were planted when three interns met at the Rape Crisis Center and quickly realized they shared a passion for serving communities that are too often overlooked or underserved in mental health care—not only in San Antonio, but across Texas.

As the years went on, each of them grew in different professional settings, learning from different communities, treatment approaches, and experiences. But the heart of the vision stayed the same: to create a practice where people could feel truly seen, supported, and accepted without having to shrink themselves to fit someone else’s idea of who they should be.

That vision eventually became ABC Counseling.
After years of training, collaboration, and learning what it takes to build a meaningful group practice, ABC Counseling officially came to life. While the practice began with three founding voices, today it is co-owned and led by Kelly Clarke and Margaret Bean, who continue to shape the practice around the values it was built on: inclusivity, authenticity, connection, and care.

And the name? That came together in one of those unexpectedly perfect moments. After days of trying to come up with something meaningful, a simple suggestion landed: ABC Counseling. It was personal, it fit, and it stuck.

Today, ABC Counseling continues to grow as a space for outsiders, overthinkers, deep feelers, and people doing their best to navigate a complicated world.

We built this space for you.

Inclusive & Affirming Care
We are committed to creating a safe, affirming space for all identities, including LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and culturally diverse clients.

We understand that your identity, experiences, and relationships shape how you move through the world—and therapy should honor that, not ignore it.

Our therapists provide care that is:
-
Identity-affirming and nonjudgmental
-
Respectful of your lived experiences and values
-
Inclusive of diverse relationships, cultures, and ways of being

You don’t have to explain or defend who you are here—you get to show up as your full self.
